Design Fiesta - 17 & 18 May 2008 - Part 1

It's been a long time since i last update this blog. Been to Japan and came back to work and it was helluva.... geez...the work was overwhelming!

Let me update about the Design Fiesta in Tokyo held 17 & 18 May. This exhibition showcases lots of artists' and designers' works of art which includes postcards, accessories, apparels, pottery, animation, drama, dances etc. Each booth is small about 1.8 m by 1.8m but then they make great advertisements for art galleries to post their ads as people from all over the world come for this exhibition. Some girls performed with their recorders to promote the little stationery they created consisting postcards, letter pads, pens, pencils... and they are dressed like the characters they created. Needless to say, where there is live music people will gather around.
There are so many photos I wish to take but most of the Japs do not whip up a camera , they use their keitai (mobile phones) to snap them and you must ask permission to take pictures too as a mark of courtesy.

午後の紅茶

There are dozens of drinks from the vending machines of the streets in Japan.. there is the famous RAMONE - Lemonade with a glass ball in the bottle (Calypso). Do you know how that came about?
These fizzy sugar laden drinks cater to the kids generally , including the BIG Kiddos who have sweet teeth! As it is gassy, they do not want the kids to drink that much at a time, the Japs thought of a glass ball insert in the glass bottle to create a "bottleneck".

Well i love gogono koucha coz' i simply love tea... and these vending machines have these plastic or PET bottled drinks in cold and warm. I just love the way they pay attention to details like these that makes it easy for people to get a warm drink ... Of coz' Singapore has it but who wants warm drinks anyway!

Stalker!!!!

Went to gym today and feeling so darn tired... the weather did not help at all ... I had to bathe like 3 times a day on weekends .....
I can't take it anymore!! And I am breaking out in rashes!
Staying home is not helping too .... the humidity gets "cooped" up in a smaller area and makes it feel unbearable!
What I need now is an air con room to ward off the humidity and some real sleep!
I was tailed by this strange guy last night... well i was taking the last bus home from toa payoh and he took that bus too ... when i was waiting for my lift, i realized he was there too and seemed very uneasy when he rattled off the question " May I be your friend and get your phone number?" I was just listening to my ipod and wasn't listening very clearly the 1st time.
The 2nd time he asked me for my number again! I scolded him and said NO and told him off that he must be nuts! Just at this time, an auntie came to the lobby and then the lift door opened for which i quickly got into it and told the auntie to quicken her pace. She asked me what happened coz' she felt that guy seems weird! So i told her the whole story and though she stays at 3rd floor, she offered to see me to 15th floor first before going. Phew!!! Was kind of traumatized whole night because though he looks in his 20s, he seems too mentally unstable!!1st time i opened the door in record time...scared he would come look for me...!! haha i din sleep well the whole nite tho....

The Little Baby Boy I long to see

This was just a year ago that I carried Dan-kun in my arms... he was just few weeks old then! Now he is such a big boy and has a little "girlfriend" already! How kids grow!
I want to see how much he has grown in the past year! He is such a lovable boy!

Congrats to Yoko & "Gori" san on your second baby!! Not sure if you mentioned it is a girl or a boy... Gori san wants a baseball team isn't it ? がんばってくださいね!

Sakura in the Bloom

Lovely sakura isn't it...?
When you go to Japan during the sakura bloom season, you will see lots like these at the parks, along the streets ...

Sakura had been blooming first at Tokyo for the last 2 years. And when this happens, the Japanese go for their annual HANAMI (flower viewing) and they sit under the trees (with mats) where there are designated areas cordoned off for these picnics of food, beer, singing, laughing, talking. Some companies even allow their employees to take time off to do so! How I wish
local companies can do so too - erm ... well... Singapore has no sakura trees... maybe we won't even want to go under the trees... we would prefer to stay indoors in the cool comfort of home and the AIRCON (which i think is the COOLest invention)!!
